1) I believe that teaching requires one to love what they are doing and requires one to want to make a difference, in the world, in the school system, or just in an individual’s life.
2) To teach means to constantly learn, you can’t teach unless you learn the new material that is coming out, who your students are and what tools you need to help them learn. Learning is continuous.
3) Teaching for learning requires engagement, relevance, emotion, and novelty. Students must want to learn in order to learn.
4) To teach successfully is to have your students walk away with new knowledge, connected to their previous knowledge.
5) Teaching is making the topic your own and to have fun.
6) Teaching is letting the students learn through experience and inquiry. It is discreetly directing them towards the right path, but letting them find the answer for themselves. It is hands on learning, not sit and get.
7) Teaching is your life, it is not a 9-5 job that can be left at the office. New ideas and concepts will always be flowing through your brain.
8) To teach means you must teach everyone, you must be inclusive. You must not prepare the student for the classroom, but the classroom for the student. You need to adapt your lessons to fit the needs of all your students.
9) To teach, you must want your students to learn, love and live a happy life
10) Teaching is to love learning, love excitement, love the unexpected, love the bright faces that shine up at you everyday, and to love going to work because it is not a “must go there” job, it’s “can’t wait to be back” career and part of life.
